Personality and Defense Styles in the Male Patients with Peptic Ulcer

【Abstract】 Objective:To explore the underlying personality and mental defense styles in male patients with peptic ulcer. Methods:Using the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) and Defense Styles Questionnaire (DSQ), we investigated 39 males patients with peptic ulcer and 39 normal controls (NC) matched for age, education, marriage and living area. Results: Male patients with peptic ulcer showed higher need for sex, abasement, anti-social aggression, and dejection, lower need for achievement, nurturance and social aggression, pressure of social aggression, substance abuse and rejection. They also applied more immature defenses than did normal controls.Conclusion: Personality styles of poor super-ego consciousness,poor self-consciousness,strong naturalism, and significant conflicts brought forth depression and self-accusation, possibly contributing to the etiology of peptic ulcer.

1.1 样本来源
萧山市第二人民医院内科病区的消化性溃疡患者及同一区域的健康青壮年男性各39人(已婚36人,未婚3人),平均年龄分别为33.70±7.07岁和34.01±6.97岁,平均受教育年限分别为9.25±1.02年和9.52±1.09年,差异无显著性(P>0.05)。临床观察结合胃纤维镜及幽门螺旋杆菌(PH)检查确诊。
